Neighborhood Spotlight: Chandler, AZ

October 16, 2012

If you’re new to town or this is your first time exploring Chandler, Arizona, then you’re in the right spot. Chandler has been a town of firsts since its beginning.
In 1891, Dr. Alexander Chandler settled on a ranch south of Mesa. He was the first veterinary surgeon in the area. Eventually, the area became known as the Chandler Ranch and was the site chosen for the luxurious Hotel San Marco, the state’s first golf resort. Chandler officially became a town in 1912, which of course means the town’s centennial celebration is currently underway!

Don't Take a Hydration Vacation

October 10, 2012

Drink more water!

You’ve heard these words before, but many not have paid as much attention to them as you should. Water makes up half our body weight and is crucial to our well-being, particularly in our dry Arizona climate.  Let’s be clear—soda pop and coffee contain water, but plain, old H2O is what keeps the machine well oiled.

Have you grabbed for your water bottle yet? Think about it—your body expects water.  It needs water to function, to maintain the proper temperate, remove waste, lubricate your joints, etc.

A Sight for Sore Eyes

September 27, 2012

Eye injuries happen, and often when we least expect them. According to Prevent Blindness America, more than 700,000 Americans injure their eyes at work each year, and another 125,000 injure their eyes at home. Another 40,000 eye injuries occur while playing sports and thousands more go unreported each year. Did you know though up to 90% of all eye injuries could be avoided with the proper eye protection?  Sure, safety goggles may not make a fashion statement, but they will protect you from potential blindness and also save you a costly trip to the E.R.

Choosing the right frames for your glasses can feel a bit like picking out a new car. With so many styles and looks, the whole process can leave you feeling overwhelmed and confused. What style speaks to me?  How do they work with my face?  Do they complement my features or serve as a distraction?

September 10, 2012

The good news about football season is getting together with friends, cheering on the home team, enjoy a few “beverages” and munching on some scrumptious snacks.  The bad news is, by the time the quarterback has passed for 200 yards, you’ve consumed a full season’s worth of calories.

August 28, 2012

Eyes: The Windows to Your Health

August 15, 2012

The human body’s system is what we call “interconnected,” meaning that changes in one part of our body, such as our eyes, can actually mean that there’s a change with another part of our body.

By having a comprehensive eye exam, your doctor may be able to spot a medical condition early, and begin a treatment plan before it starts to affect you. Since the eyes live on the surface of our bodies and are see-through, blood vessels, nerves and tissues can be easily viewed with specialized equipment.
